What is a hot mirror?

Hot mirrors are covered with a special substance that allows them to reflect infrared rays of light while allowing only visible light to go through. Visible light includes colors that the human eye can see, while infrared light and ultraviolet light, IR and UV in short, fall outside the visible spectrum that can pick up the human eye. A hot mirror is a type of dielectric mirror. Dielectric mirrors are covered with several thin layers to provide them with special reflective properties that control which light types can go through and reflect back. In the case of a hot mirror, this property allows it to reflect infrared light, so that only visible wavelengths of light can pass through the mirror.

reflecting infrared light holds many benefits. Scientists who want to study a particular type of light, created by different wavelengths, can use a hot mirror to separate the infrared wavelengths they want to study. They can also use a mirror on objects thatEré would go through the Mělypokud, be damaged by infrared light. For example, an optical cable, such as advantages when only visible light can go through, because infrared and ultraviolet light can cause radiation damage.

Although the name suggests that the mirror reflects heat, it is not entirely. The mirror generates a lot of heat and the object on which it reflects can warm up at temperature, but this is due to infrared and sometimes ultraviolet light, which was reflected back and generated heat. The hot mirror is designed mainly to reflect IR wavelengths, but it can also reflect some ultraviolet light also depending on the angles and materials from which the mirror is formed.

Usually hot mirrors are covered with yellow for the best results, but sometimes it can disrupt the experiment. The scientist may need pure white light and needs a hot mirror from neutral coloring to achieve it. Thje type is tWhen available, though not as common as yellow -colored mirrors.

A hot mirror is not in its function of separating light. Another popular dielectric mirror is a cold mirror. Instead of reflecting infrared and ultraviolet light, the cool mirror reflects the visible light when carrying IR and UV light. It is used just like a hot mirror that helps to separate the light either to protect the object or to display certain wavelengths. The combination of two mirrors at different angles can create a wide range of results when reflecting and transmitting different wavelengths of light.
