What is an Area Code?

When calling domestic long-distance calls in mainland China, dial the long-distance crown code 0. For example, when dialing a long-distance call from Shanghai to Beijing, dial the long-distance crown code 0, the Beijing area code 10, and the phone number. However, when calling from outside China (including Hong Kong and Macau) to mainland China, you do not need to dial the long-distance crown code 0. For example, if you want to make a direct international call from the United States to the Beijing, China without a switchboard, you need to dial the US International Crown Code 011, China International Area Code 86, Beijing Area Code 10, and telephone number. In mainland China, if you want to make international long-distance calls (including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan), you need to add the international crown code "00", followed by the international area code and the user's phone number.
