Jan Loof was born in Tronhättan in southern Sweden. He is a well-known Swedish children's writer, illustrator and jazz musician. He has won the Swedish Writer's Fund for Artistic Achievement Award (1976, 1977) and Elsa Beskov Medal (1977). In 1966, he entered the children's literary world with "A Magician in Stockholm" and "I am a Pirate". Then, The Legend of the Red Apple (1974) earned him an international reputation. The work Hermione's Car has been translated into multiple languages and published everywhere. In 2006, he created the "Peller" series.
