What is the plantar reflex?

Plantar reflex is an involuntary movement of the foot in response to friction of the outer sole of the foot from the heel to the tip. The fingers turned towards the sole of the legs and legs of Everts or turned away from the median of the body. Plantar reflex is a sign of a healthy central nervous system.

When a plantar reflex is induced, there are three possible answers, the normal flexor reflex described above, indifferent or no response, and the extensor reflex, in which the large finger bends up and the other fingers of the fan out. This last answer is called Babinski's sign or Koch's sign and generally testifies to the central nervous system damage. In children, however, it is normal until one or two, during sleep and after long -term walking.

The test results for plantar reflex are usually marked as "Babinski's presence" or "Babin's sign is missing". An indifferent answer is not generally the cause of the alarm. Babinskiznisin may be caused by damage to the spinal cord or brain.

While the Babinski test is a current stanar for inducing plantar reflex, there are many different possible methods, each with a different name for the pathological reaction of the doctor who invented the test. Bing's sign is a reaction to multiple pricks on the top of the leg, while Cornell's sign is in response to scratching the upper leg. Chaddock's sign is caused by the hunger of the bone on the side of the ankle and the Gonda brand is running by bending and releasing the fourth tip. Gordon's sign is a reaction to pressing the calf and the MONIZ brand is in response to the bending of the foot down to the ankle. The Oppenheim sign can be caused by pressing on the inner edge of the shin or calf muscle and the Schaffer sign is tested by pressing Achilles tendon.

For testing the Stransky sign, a small finger is withdrawn to the side and released. Strümpell's sign is tested by the fact that the patient bends his knee against resistance and Throckmorton's reflex can be caused by hitMetatarsophalangal joint of the large finger. Any of the tests described will cause plantar reflex in a healthy adult.
