What Is a Thyroid Mass?
A thyroid cyst is a cyst that contains fluid in the thyroid. The mass is round, with a diameter between 2 and 5 cm. It is smooth and generally not painful or slightly painful. It moves up and down with swallowing. Most are single nodules and rarely seen in multiple nodules. When the internal pressure of the thyroid sac is not high, the texture is soft, and if there is more fluid, the texture will be tougher. Thyroid cysts are usually asymptomatic, unless the cyst is very large or there is bleeding in the cyst, which may cause some symptoms of compression, such as pain, difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, and hoarseness.

Causes of thyroid cysts
- Thyroid cyst is an endemic disease, mainly due to iodine deficiency, causing thyroid hyperplasia and thyroid cysts, degenerative lesions.
Clinical manifestations of thyroid cyst
- Patients with thyroid cysts do not have any discomfort at an early stage, and they often find a tumor at the front of the neck unintentionally. There are usually no systemic symptoms. Individuals have symptoms of hyperthyroidism, and those who have been sick for a long time may have symptoms of reduced thyroid function, such as decreased gastric appetite, weakness, and mild edema.
Thyroid cyst examination
- Laboratory inspection
- It has certain significance for the diagnosis of cysts and the nature of judgment.
- 2. Imaging examination
- Ultrasound examination showed a liquid dark area in the mass, which could be distinguished from the solid nodules. Radionuclide imaging is mostly "cold nodules".
- 3. Other
- Thyroid function tests are mostly in the normal range. Most thyroid cysts are benign. Thyroid cancer with cysts is rare. Cancerous cyst cyst fluid cytology can detect cancer cells.
Thyroid cyst diagnosis
- 1. The thyroid is swollen on one or both sides, and is diagnosed as a soft nodule. The pressure is cystic, and the temperature of the local skin color is normal.
- 2. Basal metabolism, 131 I measurement and blood thyroxine measurement excluded hyperthyroidism, simple goiter, thyroiditis, and thyroid tumors.
- 3. After B-mode ultrasound examination, in addition to seeing an increase in thyroid volume, fluid level waves appeared.
Thyroid Cyst Treatment
- To understand the nature of thyroid cysts, malignant surgical resection is required. Generally benign cysts can be followed up for observation.
