What is an anthropometer?
Antropometr je zařízení určené pro měření rozměrů lidského těla. The tool is usually used to determine the length of the body, such as the arm or the head, not to determine the perimeter. Usually, the anthropometer consists of a rod with two parallel sliding arms that can be moved to contain a measured part of the body, giving an accurate assessment of the distance between these two points. Throughout history, anthropometry has been used for a number of purposes, but the techniques remained essentially the same.
The basic function of the anthropometer is to accurately determine the distance between two points. In order to achieve this function, the device must be made of a material that is strong enough to maintain its shape for many years, because the tool bending would inaccurate. Not only does the arms of the anthropometer must be parallel, but it must also be a perfectly perpendicular rejection on which they slip. If these restrictions are met, then the distance between the ends of both shoulders, when applied to the body, is precisely measuredtk.
While many parts of the body can be measured by anthropometer, certain measurements have become conventional and these devices have evolved to easily adapt to these measurements. Measurement of arms, head, legs and fingers are generally performed by anthropometers. For example, measurements across the skull, such as the distance between the temples, are facilitated by the anthropometer because this device provides accurate values by physical touch of measurement.
with the continued usefulness of anthropometers, it is possible and even practical to obtain detailed scanning of human bodies in three dimensions using computers. As technology improves and become cheaper, the measurement can completely replace anthropometers measurement for the accuracy of the provided machines.
In the course of history, anthropometers were used in pseudo -scientific persecutions and attempts to scientifically assess the nature of man. During the Holocaust, physical measures were inherently used in an effort to isolatedJewish race from a Nazi perspective. At present, anthropometry is primarily practiced to isolation of the average size of the human body for commercial products and to study the effects of certain factors on human growth across populations.
Given the undesirable use of anthropometry in history, it is understandable why many people argue that they are measured in this way, because they have seen photographs of anthropometric instruments in more sinister circumstances. Therefore, when using such a device, it is a good idea how to approach, how the data will be used and why it is necessary.
