What is Blastomycosis?
Bacillus, a genus of bacteria, can form spores (endospores). They have strong resistance to external harmful factors and are widely distributed. They exist in soil, water, air, and animal intestines.
- Bacillus is widely used in industry, agriculture and pharmaceutical production [6]
- Most Bacillus bacteria are harmless, but some are pathogenic to humans and animals. Bacillus cereus can cause food poisoning with symptoms similar to S. aureus food poisoning. Some strains can produce heat-resistant toxins in food, which are related to germination of spores, and symptoms of vomiting occur 1 to 5 hours after being ingested. Other strains produce heat-labile enterotoxin, which causes diarrhea within 10 to 15 hours after ingestion. Bacillus cereus is known to cause bacteremia and other symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea in immunocompromised patients. Bacillus anthracis can cause anthrax in humans and animals [1] .
