What is an oil fire?
Oil fire is a fire at the oil or gas well. With enough fuel that is restored under pressure, the fire can burn and wild for a longer period of time. The approaches to the management of oil wells fires depend on the fire, location and characteristics of the well. Firefighting crews must get the fire under control for safety reasons and prevent contamination, as controlled oil burns can create significant environmental risks, including polyromatic hydrocarbons and dioxins.
There may be a number of oil fire causes. Sometimes there is a triggering event like lightning, while in other non -functional or incorrectly maintained equipment causes fire. In a war struggle, oil fires can create when oil fields are hit by accident, and sometimes militarists have lit oil wells to prevent the other side from accessing them, or to create a danger they will have to clean before continuing. This was seen in Iraq in 1991 during the Gulf War.
Oil fire can burn very hot and can also burn deep inside the well where firefighting crews cannot reach. Fire management usually involves cleaning the materials around the well and attempting to direct the spilling of oil or gas directly up, as the flame column will be easier to attack than smoldering underground fire or burning oil on the ground. Cleaning the area around the well may take hours or days and redirects the direction of leakage.
Chemicals are available for oil situations. They can suppress the oxygen in the air to prevent burning the fire. It is harder to stop into the available fuel because the well will continue to get out of control until the staff can limit it, and it is difficult when it is on fire. Sometimes it is possible to remove the well head, install an extension device, and then flood the wiinert gas or mud to stop the leak. Another option is to use relief holes to withdraw fuel from burning well orUse as an introductory point for heavy mud to stop leakage.
oil companies maintain specially trained firefighting crews to deal with fires, and there are also private companies offering firefighting services for oil wells. Training includes learning about how oil wells work and how to deal with different types of wells, as well as understand the risks of the environment and human health associated with oil fire in the oil well.
