What is liquid silicone?
Liquid silicone is one type of silicon polymer, which is often used to create molds for various industrial products. It is most commonly used in forms for rubber, resin, foam and metals that have a low melting point. Household objects such as rubber meters, baking meals and nipples for a baby bottle are also produced from this material. In general, liquid silicone is preferred for these applications over other materials due to its flexibility, viscosity, strength, versatility and lower costs. As a result, they are ideal for molds for certain metal alloys because they will be able to hold metals that will melt at reasonably low temperatures. The cost of liquid silicone forms is generally lower than ceramic forms usually used for metals. Liquid silicone is also chemically inert, which makes it a good candidate for products that come into contact with food, or for molds that come into contact with more reactive compounds. It is also resistant to water due to its chemicala structure that includes hydrophobic or water combat groups. For example, the chemicals added to the silicone mixture could either strengthen it as an electrical insulator, or they could turn them into a conductor. Color, opacity, strength and texture of liquid silicone can also be adjusted, making it a practical choice for a wide range of household products.
Liquid silicone is usually created in molds or products through a process known as the pressing of liquid. During this process, silicone rubber is loaded into the piston and pumped into a blender, along with the catalyst and any coloring book or other chemical accessories. The device called the measuring unit allows mixing the reaction will be carefully checked as it maintains the slow release of the silicone and catalyst in accurate amounts. The catalyst, which usually contains platinum, activates silicone, causing the mixture to run into a mold.
