What is teleoperation?

Teleoperation is the operation of the robot from a remote location. It is used in the universe survey, oil and gas industry, army and medical areas. Robots are usually distributed and controlled by a teleoperation because sending people would be too expensive or too dangerous. In general, one operator has control of the robot and feels a certain level of immersion in a distant environment. Controls used by the operator are often intuitive enough to allow the robot to be fast and smooth.

In order to create the possibility of teleoperation, a sense of telepression must be created. This can be achieved using sensors to collect data in a remote environment. For example, in an underwater robot, a sonar sensor can be used to determine the vertical distance to the sea bottom. Sonar technology jumps sound wave from the ocean bottom and records the time that the wave takes to make a return journey. Robonaut has the upper body that resembles a person and will use a teleoperation for control over his arms and hands. The teleoperator will wear a headset and a number of sophisticated sensors that allow a high level of control and dexterity of the robot.

There are certain limits of telepresstion technology. Electromagnetic radiation travels at light speed and is fastesta nicer way of transfer of sensor data from a remote environment. Even at this speed, the signal delay between the ground and Mars ranges from six to 40 minutes. As a result, the Rovers on Mars cannot be operated from a country with a great sense of teleoperation in real time. In the oil and gas industry, underwater vehicles (ROV) operated remotely used to operate oil extraction equipment in deep ocean waters. They are usually operated from the boat on the surface and have a long cable connecting the operator with the robot.
