What is the hunting process?
The Hunter process is a process of metallurgy used to clean titanium; It was very successful up to the age of 40 of the 20th century, when the process lost its popularity with a cheaper Kroll. To start the hunter process, coke, titanium dioxide and chlorine must be collected and heated. Then the sodium is added and the mixture is heated again. When sodium and titanium heat together, the product is almost pure titanium. Although this process is rarely used at the beginning of the 21st century, it laid the foundation for all other titanium cleaning procedures.
To start the hunter process, three elements are needed. They are titanium dioxide, coke and chlorine. The heat is applied to three, so there is a chemical reaction that creates titanium tetrachloride. In this reaction, titanium and chlorine oxide and chlorine mix together and coke is needed as a source of carbon to help create this reaction. After the initial reaction, the sodium is added to the titanium tetrachloride and both heat to about 1,472 ° Fahrenheit (800 ° Celsius). This allows sodium to workTetrachloride titanium to allow reaction.
After cooling the metal, the left element is almost pure titanium. The average mark is about 99.9 percent net, which, according to many standards, is considered clean. This happens because the heated sodium is able to clear the other elements attached to the titanium tetrachloride and leave only the titanium itself.
When Titan was first discovered, it cannot be used as a pure substance for a very important reason: it has never been clean. Like many other elements, titanium is almost always attached to other elements and has been too attached to these other elements to be useful. The hunter's process was the first time that it could be pure titanium -mold and was able to inspire many similar procedures to create similar results.
One of the main problems with the hunting process is that it is relatively expensive, especially in comparison with the other favorite method of Titan's cleaning, the Kroll process. FROMThe Hunter method is rarely used, is considered one of the best methods for titanium extraction, so it still finds some use. It is primarily used when the manufacturer needs to extract as much titanium as possible or is tied by too many other elements to be properly cleaned by any other method.
