What is ileoanal anastomosis?

ileoanal anastomosis is a type of gastrointestinal surgery where the entire large intestine is removed and the small intestine base is connected to the anal channel. This procedure is very invasive and is usually done after more conservative approaches to treatment have failed, most often in the case of severe ulcerative colitis. The recovery time varies depending on the patient's health at the time of the procedure. Surgery critically allows patients to keep the intestine control rather than having to use an ileostomy bag. If this treatment does not work, ileoanal anastomosis may be recommended. In the procedure, the surgeon completely cuts the large intestine and removes the sick tissue. The ileum, the structure of the small intestine base, is connected directly to the anal canal. If the patient is very good at the same time, the case will be made to hold a reservoir for the stool. If the patient is well, a second procedure may be required to produce the housing.

Also known as the procedure of J-Pout or S-Pouta, this surgery is commonly performed in men, usually over 35 years old. After surgery, the patient will have to follow a special dietary recommendation while the intestines recover and maintain the intestinal health after recovery from surgery. People with ileoanal anastomosis can be exposed to an increased risk of dehydration and some other health problems and it is important to carefully monitor their health.

Surgery carries a number of risks and invasive abdominal procedures can be dangerous. During the procedure, there is a risk of adverse effects on anesthesia and it is also possible to develop inflammation and infections in the intestine. If anastomosis is not executed, this may burst, introduce stools into the abdominal cavity, which could pose serious risks to the patient. The use of a highly qualified surgeon will help reduce risks as well as working with an experienced anesthesiologist.

Before receiving the ileoanal anastomosis, patients may want to ask about the follow -up care instructions, andwould know what to expect and how to prepare for surgical recovery. During recovery, patients should be vigilant for abdominal pain, tenderness, swelling and heat, as it may be symptoms of surgical complications. Patients can be monitored for several days in the hospital before they are released home to identify any immediate problems with ileoanal anastomosis in time.
