What are the worms?
Glow Worms are not in fact worms, but in fact are insect larvae known as a sponge. It must not be confused with European fire flies called Glow Worms, Gnat larvae are found in caves, caves and other protected places in Australia and New Zealand. Worms are the main attractions in both countries and bring millions of dollars for tourism every year. Their growing popularity among locals and tourists is not surprising due to their interesting background.
Glow Worms derive their name from their ability to produce light naturally, a process known as bioluminescence . Their blue-green light of light is emitted as a result of the chemical reaction between several components: a waste product called Luciferin, the enzyme lucifherase, the energy molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and oxygen. Light is used to attract prey, such as small snails, midges, caddis flies, mosquitoes, mayflies, moths and Millipedes. In adult women svThe glow lights as mating calls of adult men in the area.
Depending on the environment and food supply, the worms have a life cycle lasting between 11 and 12 months. There are four phases in the life cycle:
eggs. A woman of adult hot worms lays an average of 130 eggs. These eggs are laid in clusters of 30 to 40 in protected areas such as cracks and slots. They are creamy, about 0.03 inches (0.75 mm) in diameter and very sticky, allowing them to stick to cave walls and ceilings. As the eggs age, their color darkens. The egg takes three weeks to hatch into the larvae.
larvae. Glow Worms spends eight to nine months at this stage, the longest compared to other phases of life. The larva begins to shine as soon as it emerges from the egg. It starts at a length of 0.12 to 0.2 inches (3 to 5 mm) and can grow up to 1.2 inches (3 cm) before masonry.
Glow Worms buildsNests, impressive and organized horizontal mucus and silk tunnels from which 10 to 70 silk fishing lines measuring between 0.79 and 3.94 inches (20 to 100 mm) hang. Due to the flexibility of their bodies, the worms can spread to the length of the uninvited fishing line and spit mucus and silk as they move up to form a line. These fibers are covered with sticky mucus drops that paralyze prey.
Once they are completed, they live in these lines. They move up and down in parts and shine clearly to attract and attract prey. They are smoother, the brighter shines. Worms of the glow may feel vibration when prey is trapped and immobilized with drops of mucus. They slide to the prey and consume either by vacuuming the juices or it is a whole. As soon as the worms have the food filling, they will stop emitting the light.Pupae. At the end of the larval stage of the glow, the worms excrete a huge amount of mucus around their bodies. This mucus eventually dries and shrinks and createsRomage. Previously, the fibers of the fishing lines are arranged to create a protective barrier in which the suitcase of the case hangs safely.
When horrified, brilliant worms emit light intermittently. Because the case is transparent for the chicks, it attracts the emitted glow near adult men. This phase lasts about 12 days. At the end, the female Pupae shines more clearly and signals their preparation for mating.
adults. adults look similar to mosquitoes, with an average length of 0.59 inches (15 mm). They have a short life because they do not have a mouth or other means to feed. In fact, their main objectives are mating and reproduction. Adult men live between three and five days, while women live only a day or two and die soon after laying eggs.
Glow Worms Arsenic Creatures, whose secrets must be uncovered throughout the world. However, there is a growing concern that the growing number of tourist visits may endanger this type, which eventually leads to extinctBefore we learn more about them.
