What is the food bank?

Food bank is an organization established to receive food gifts to be distributed to those who are hungry and needed. Food banks can be permanent organizations or can be created to temporarily provide food such as natural disasters victims. Food banks are now part of many neighborhoods and usually rely on volunteers to keep them running. The food is still edible and as part of the expiry date, but too close to the expiry date to be sold to the shelf. Food banks must effectively distribute food to get into those who need them. The food bank can cooperate with groups against poverty that organizes feeding from the church or community center.

Some groups prepare food donated to the food bank and bring prepared goods to those who need it. In the case of homeless people can be given other objects along with food such as socks, blankets, clothingy or personal care products. Second hand shops can donate well used clothes and blankets to groups that work with food banks.

The food bank can also function as a food pantry in which they are donated non -essential to shelves and people who cannot afford to buy food can choose food from shelves. Food banks that have low overall gifts of food can invite the public to donate objects. Businesses can voluntarily maintain a gift basket in the client donation. Preserved or wrapped objects and baby food in jars are usually welcome gifts of most food banks.

Food banks also accept cash gifts and can use money to buy items that are low to help feed people. The food type of food pantry helps those who have housing but cannot afford to buy enough fooda. They serve people who may work and/or can have children to make a living.
