What is the difference between white mass and gray matter?

The central nervous system can be divided into white mass and gray mass. These two divisions earned their names because of the difference in their appearance in rough human anatomy. White matter seems to be white due to the presence of a large amount of myelin, oily protein, which serves insulating function for signal transmission. Gray matter seems to be gray brown due to the presence of neuronal cell bodies and capillaries, as well as the relative lack of myelin. White mass and gray matter differ on the basis of their components, functions and placement in the brain and spinal cord.

White matter is sometimes called noun albums. It contains myelinated axon tracts that combine different areas of gray matter in the brain and spinal cord. These myelinated axons carry nerve impulses from one neuron to another. The presence of myelin allows faster the transmission of nerve signals.Mmissural tract and association tract. The projection tracts carry nerve signals from the bark to other areas of the brain or from the brain to other tissues of the body. Gray matter is sometimes called Grisea substantia. It mainly contains cellular bodies, dendrites and synapses. Other ingredients of gray matter include neuropil, glial cells and capillaries. Neuropil is a collective term for dendrites and axons and can be myelinated or unmyelined, while glial cells refer to astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. Unlike white matter, which is mainly used to transmit nerve signals, gray matter is where such signals are generated and processed.

The white matter located in the deeper parts of the cerebelle is sometimes called arbor vitae. In the spinal cord, white matter is more superficial than gray mass, and surrounds different corners.

white matter and gray matter also differ in terms of their benefits to the volume of the brain and their energy consumption. While white matter is about 60% of the brain volume, gray matter is another 40%. However, gray matter is more consumed by energy and increases approximately 94% of the total oxygen that goes to the brain.
