What Is Vaginal Epithelium?

Vaginal mucosa refers to the mucous membrane layer secreted by the inner wall of the vagina that keeps the surface of the inner wall of the vagina moist and keeps the surface alive, because its surface is thick and sticky. During the follicular phase, the vaginal mucosa is affected by estrogen, the epithelium is thickened, and the epidermal cells are keratinized; the vaginal epithelial cells are rich in glycogen (Note: the vaginal mucosa is a stratified flat epithelium, also known as "stratified squamous epithelium"). Vaginal bacillus breaks down into lactic acid to maintain the acidic environment of the vagina. After ovulation, the progesterone acts, and the vaginal mucosa epithelium is largely shed, and the keratosis disappears.
