What is a quadrilateral?

The definition of a quadrangle varies depending on the context. In geometry there is a quadrilateral - or more often a quadrilateral - a figure with four sides and four corners. In architecture, the term is used for a courtyard surrounded by a building from all sides. One of the most common uses of this term is to refer to quadrangle or "quad" map, type of map produced by geological survey of the United States (USGS). In these maps, all areas are divided into rectangles 7.5 minutes, length and width.

On the quads, the quadrilaterals appear rectangular, but in fact they do not have parallel parties. On flat maps, a quadrangle may appear in the shape of a rectangle, but on the globes and maps of the globe, the line differs depending on the curvature of the Earth. The left and right side of the quadrilateral lines running up and down or north and south; The lines are not parallel, but remain along the generally recognized longitudinal lines. East and in the west Rčáry Unning on a run along the Lines of Line Lines and remain r rAvoid with each other, but are not the same lengths. As a result, they meet longitudinal lines at different points.

Every quadrilateral on the USGS map ranges from 49 miles (78.8 km) to 70 miles (112.6 km). These squares are the basic subdivizes of the Public Land System for USGS, which is used to identify ground land throughout the country. Each quadrilateral on the map can be further divided into 16 different black neighborhoods and generally the range of about 24 miles (38.6 km) on each side.

On the quad, the quadrilateral is most often named after a local land function such as a stream, a crater, a fault line or a plateau. For example, one quadrilateral in Texas is known as "Ranger Creek, Texas Quad". It is named for the Ranger Creek, which is located in its borders and is known under this name on maps and links.

these quadrangles or topographic quadrilateral maps were notrestricted to the ground. They were also established as geological maps on other planets. Quadrangles on Mars, as well as those in the United States and other places of the world, were named for local monuments and identification of functions.
