What is DLNA?
Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is a collection of companies that work on a single integrated home network. The Alliance was founded in 2003 under the name Digital Home Working Group, organizing specifications for home electronics. These specifications allow communication between devices such as TVs, computers and game consoles. The overall goal for the alliance is to create an environment in which all domestic electronics are connected through a single home intranet. This would allow most of the connected devices to go through a single computer interface, sharing a single network storage space and available anywhere in the house.
DLNA consists of many of the largest computer and technology companies in the world. They have a board consisting of nine companies of all sectors such as AWox, Broadcom and Intel. Along with their ruling members, there are more than a dozen promoter members who also have an influence in directing. There are also more nEŽ 100 smaller members working on support or consulting capacity.
Since their foundation, the DLNA has been in the foreground in the fight for open standards and protocols. Many of their specification updates focused on open protocols and removal of proprietary formats. Many of these specification updates also include a new form of service or technology that extends areas that DLNA protocols cover. With the late introduction of the category of general mobile devices, the alliance will hope to create standard protocols for items as diverse as MP3 players, camcorders and mobile computers.
DLNA dealt with the open standards they advocate could also cause piracy to increase. Specifications usually contain a number of digital rights management protocols along with updates of general integration. These warranties prevent coping or distribution of protected media over DLNA devices. When things work, as intended, the content will only play on one device. The content can also be streaming to several places, but never moved from the original device.
at the 2010 Electronics Exhibition in Las Vegas, Nevada, DLNA announced the software certification program. This program would allow specific pieces of software to receive DLNA certification similar to the fact that it is on hardware. Certified software would allow open information transfer, especially media, such as music or videos, through open and inappropriate formats and protocols.
In principle, this would mean that one could watch the same video about items as diverse as their TV, game consoles or computer through a single program. It was the main step for the company because it did not specifically approve the software. It was known before this announcement that something labeled as DLNA software works with other certified products.
