What is an older advocate?

The older advocate is someone who works to speak and protect older people. Older defense can take many forms. In some cases, the defense of the elder may promote legislators to adopt laws that protect the elderly and punish gross or neglected carers and care facilities. The older advocate could also cooperate with the state protective services of adults, social workers or facilities for the care of older care to ensure that they are satisfactory needs of older clients and that their civil rights are protected. Some older advocates work with individuals to ensure that they receive the care they need and help them find it if it is not. Monitoring and prevention of abuse of older agencies is extremely difficult for state agencies, as abuse of domestic elders often does not remain unnoticed or not reported and abuse in care facilities can be hidden from inspectors. The National Center for Older abuse in 2003, which in 2003 estimated that 1 to 2 million older Americans experienced some form of abuse, exploitation or neglect. Elder people are particularly vulnerable to abuse because they may be completely dependent on someone else for their daily needs or for reduced physical or mental capacity. Abuse may be physical, emotional or exploitative. An older advocate could only be a neighbor who suspects a problem and helps the elderly by reporting suspicion of abuse to social workers or local enforcement of law.

Some cities have older abuse of hotline for victims, neighbors and carers to report an anonymously suspicion of misuseibration. Local agencies for the defense of the elders, with a volunteer or paid employees who are trained to identify and report abuse. These older advocates could work with individual older people, with domestic carers or in the field of care. Their task is to raise awareness of signs of abuse and work with older people to help them find ways of offensive situations.
