What Is Histiocytosis?
This disease is a group of diseases with abnormal proliferation of monocytes-macrophages (histocytes), which are rare, including Hand-Schüler-Christian disease, Letter-Siwes disease, and eosinophilic granulomatosis. Because the etiology is unknown, it is named histiocytosis X. Although the scope of the affected organs (bone, skin, lymph nodes, pituitary gland, etc.), the age of onset, and clinical manifestations vary. However, the lungs are involved to varying degrees, and the histological changes are also the abnormal proliferation of monocytes and macrophages and the infiltration of eosinophils to form interstitial granulomas. Eosinophilic granuloma mainly damages the lungs, so the damage of lung disease is described as the representative of this group of diseases.

- Lesions often invade the alveolar walls, alveolar ducts, bronchi, and tissues around the blood vessels in the lungs, and may have bleeding and necrosis; the original structure is destroyed, fibrous tissues are proliferated, or honeycomb lung changes.
- About 20% of the patients are asymptomatic and found only on chest X-ray examination. Most cases are slow and may have low fever, fatigue, dry cough, and difficulty breathing. 20% of patients combined
- Mainly rely on lung biopsy.
- Glucocorticoids have different effects, and early use may have some effects. Sensitive to radiation therapy; but because radiation can cause fibrosis, it should be used with caution and can be used for localized lesions outside the lung.
