What is situs inversus?

Situs inversus is a rare state that results in the arrangement of the mirror image of the organs in the chest and stomach. It can be called dextrocardy of the mirror image, although in rare cases the heart is not fully moved to the opposite side of the chest and is called levocardia. As this arrangement might sound, this may not necessarily testify to health problems and there are many people who do not know that they have this condition if they do not receive a thorough medical examination. Everything is switched to the opposite side with the heart present to the right on the chest next to the lungs, which should be on the left side of the chest. The liver, spleen and other organs are generally inverted and create a mirror image.

It is advantageous that all organs are on the wrong side, because it keeps the way the organs behave a funnavzaji. Most people who have inversus situs have no problems or health problems. What happens problematic is when only some organs switch. Dextrocardy, heart on the right strThe chest without any other organs disability is a tendency to mean much more likely to present heart defects present. If there is invers situs without dextrocardy, it may also be a problem.

While many people with situs inversus have completely healthy and normal lives, there may be several who have other problems. It is possible that heart defects will occur, although the rate of occurrence is only slightly higher than rates in people with normal organ organization. About a quarter of people with a mirror image of dextrocardy also have a condition affecting the cilia, causing it to beat backwards and make people much more susceptible to illness. When situs inversus and primary ciliary dyskinesia occurs together, this can be called Cartager's syndrome.

There is no treatment for inversus situs unless other problems are present. With better imaging technology, this special organization of organs can first notice in the uterus with a sonogram. Because many organs are small, it is not always clear that dextrocardy in the fetus means a mirror image of dextrocardy. This can mean more serious conditions and may indicate that they make sure they deliver mothers in a tertiary hospital. It should be emphasized that many heart defects could be recorded halfway to pregnancy with scans such as fetal echocardiogram.

Many people wonder why there is inverse situs, and although it is known to be a repetition defect, a clear cause is not always defined. In some cases, genetics can play a role, but this is not always true. If the condition is genetically inherited, it is assumed that it occurs in an autosomal recessive pattern, which means that both parents would have to bear the gene for it. Although both parents have this gene, each child would only have a 25% chance of developing dextrocardy of the mirror image.
