What is an energy relay?

Power Relay is a switch that uses an electromagnet to open or close the circuit. The basic relay design uses the coil of electromagnet, fitting, spring and one or more contacts. If the power relay is designed to be normally open, the perimeter is not completed when it is off. The atmature held in the spring is overcast in the direction of the coil until it reaches the contact, thereby closing the circuit. If the relay is normally closed, the coil pulls the armature from the contact and opens the circuit.

The power relay can be controlled by low voltage, but can also perform a higher amount of voltage. For this reason, the power relays are used for many different applications, including sound amplification, automobile electronics and telephone systems. Earlier computer systems and telegraph systems that pass the signal from one circuit to another were also used.

cars contain many electrical equipment and systems, all powered by a 12-volt battery that makes the power relay ideal for use in cars. Many cars contain 20 or more relays that operate everything from corner to Power Train and windshield wipers. While the relay in the car can be placed throughout the vehicle, those that can wear and are most likely to be replaced, are often found in the fuse box. This location makes it easier to find and replace the power relay as needed.

There are many types of energy relays, including electromechanical, reed and mercury wetted relays. Power Relay Reed uses a coil wrapped around two reed switches, surrounded by inert gas and enclosed in a glass tube. When the coil is under voltage, the overlapping ends of the switches that contain contacts move towards each other. Once they are no longer under voltage, the switches move apart and break the circuit.

The power relay works in almost the same way as the reed relay. The difference is that instead of being surrounded by inert gas, the switches of reeds are in Mercury. Power Relay Mercury wetted force is very expensive and must always be maintained vertical. Due to their high costs and physical restrictions, the relay of wetted mercury is rarely used.
