What is the universal clutch?
The universal clutch is a specialized rotary joint used to allow the rotating split shaft to divert along its axis in any direction. In other words, the universal clutch would allow the driving shaft of the ship to stand on the gearbox standing dead surface to control the propeller -oriented at 22 ° from the horizontal. This flexibility is achieved by the joint construction with two Jokes in the form connected by a cross hub. One yoke is attached to the end of each part of the divided shaft and connects to the cross hub, with the U-Section being oriented to 90 ° together. This arrangement allows a horizontal primary shaft to control the inclined shaft without disproportionate friction or loss of speed or drive potential. This is a problem when rigid drive shafts are used, which is most often solved by a universal clutch. You also know as a universal joint, Cardan or U-Kloub, this clutch allows a fixed or hollow two-piece drive shaft to “bendpack ”in any direction and in a wide range of deflection values without losing any of the original drive potential.
The universal clutch is actually relatively simple. Each clutch consists of two U -shaped jokes, one of which for the ends of two halves of the shaft. In order to connect to the two halves of the shaft, both jokes are connected, oriented to 90 ° together and connected to the cross. Cross charge usually takes the form of a disk or ball, with two round shafts passing at right angles that form a cross shape. The flat "ears" of each caliper u has drilled holes through them, which place the cross hub shafts. This allows primary and secondary shafts to depend on the cross hub and rotate smoothly, even if they are oriented at different angles.
These couplings have excellent power to the versatility of the unit orientation to the unit they allow. The universal clutch has no noneThe virtue of the drive speed, does not generate any significant friction and is robust and is able to transmit a high torque load. The universal clutch is widely used in industrial, maritime and automobile applications and can even be found in the Sokety tools. It is used with the handles of the horned socket, allowing the tools in tight spaces where the torque inputs are required.
