What is a bending post?
The bending of the bend is a measure of how much material is needed to accommodate bending in a sheet. This is the bending angle function, bending radius, material thickness and variable called K-factor. The bending items vary depending on the angle of bending, type and thickness of the material and methods used to create bend. Calculation of the bending allowance is necessary to create a finished product of the correct size. The line over the bending thickness, called the neutral axis, does not change the length when the part is bending. The material inside this line is in compression, while the material on the outside of this line is a tension. The location of the neutral axis varies depending on the angle of bending and the bend radius.
K-factor is the distance ratio of the neutral line from the inner edge of the material to the material thickness. In general, the K-factor is less than 0.25 and cannot be greater than 0.5, because it is not physically possible for compression on the inside of the bend to be greater than the voltage on the outside. K-Factor is essentially an indirect measure of the compression ratio to the bending voltage-higher is the higherK-factor, the greater the compression. The K-factor depends on the material used and the type of bending.
To calculate the bending allowance, the K-factor is multiplied by the material thickness; This number is then added to the bend radius. This number is multiplied by the angle of bending times at above 180. The formula is the bending amount = (K-factor x thickness + radius) x X angle (PI/180). Once the bending post has been calculated, it is added to the desired finished length, the length of the material required to create a bent piece.
Machines commonly used to bend the sheet include brake presses-known also as press brakes-A brakes of boxes and virgins. There are several ways of creating bending on each type of brake. Materials that are commonly bent by brake include aluminum and fine steel; Some types of towing plastics may also be bending using these machining methods.
