How effective is Mirtazapine for depression?

Mirtazapine is an effective treatment of depression, which is the primary function of the drug. Studies have shown that patients taking mirtazapine for depression had a similar or higher recovery rate than patients taking other antidepressants such as trazadon or amitriptylin. Patients taking Mirtazapine have longer remission times than amitriptylin patients, which means that their depression will be cleaned longer without redeeming. The drug is used for both the main depression and the post -traumatic stress disorder.

doctors believe that depression is caused by imbalances of neurotransmitters in the brain, especially serotonin and noradrenaline. Most antidepressant drugs are designed to bring the levels of these neurotransmitters back to balance by basically making it possible to stimulate other nerves in the brain. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the most common form of antidepressants and these focus mainly on serotonin levels. Mirtazapine for depression works by increasing hlAdin serotonin and noradrenaline and evidence suggest that the onset of action is faster than SSRI. The drug is available in oral tablets 15, 30 or 45 milligrams (mg), with most patients taking 15 mg daily.

Research on the effects of mirtazapine for depression suggests that the drug is equally effective or more effective than other antidepressant drugs. Studies compared the effects of mirtazapine with other antidepressant drugs such as fluoxetine, paroxetine, trazadon and citalopram. The drug is more effective than fluoxetine, paroxetin and citalopram and at least as effective as the trazadon. All these drugs are approved and widely used for depression and similar or greater effectiveness of mirtazapine suggests that the drug is another very good choice. Patients who have unfavorable responses to other antidepressant drugs can also have a better response to Mirtazapine.

Patients using Mirtazapine for depression normally experience droughto in the mouth, increased appetite or dizziness. Other side effects such as constipation, confusion or abnormal dreams are less common. The most serious side effects in the use of mirtazapine for depression include seizures, manic episodes and abnormal heart rhythms. Despite these side effects, research shows that mirtazapine does not cause many side effects associated with the SSRI and that generally patients tolerate treatment and any other competitive treatment. However, it should be noted that antidepressants increase the risk of suicide in young children or adolescents.
