What are the benefits of NSAID for arthritis?

Generally, the benefits of NSAIDs for arthritis predominate over related risks. NSAIDs reduce inflammation and swelling and also alleviate mild to medium pain. Medicines are cheap, relatively safe and widely available for the treatment of mild, short -term arthritis pain without a prescription. However, in severe, chronic pain and inflammation patients with arthritis may require a stronger dose under the advice and issuing a doctor.

Non -steroidal anti -inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs, were first developed at the end of the 18th century with the advent of aspirin in the form of a tablet. NSAIDs are one of the most commonly distributed drugs, known for reducing inflammation, relieving pain and reducing fever with several undesirable reactions. Arthritis and osteoarthritis suffer mainly from NSAID therapy because drugs alleviate pain and less inflammation associated with these conditions and at the same time cause several side effects with medium use.

The most common NSAID drugs work by blocking cyclooxygenase (COX), an enzyme that produces prostaglandins in těle. When the joints become injured or inflamed as in arthritis, prostaglandins are responsible for swelling and increased pain pain. NSAIDs for arthritis include aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen and ketoprofen. One of the common side effects in sensitive patients with frequent use is stomach sickness or stomach bleeding, because the same cox enzyme that reduces inflammation also inhibits the protective production of stomach mucus.

Another type of NSAID for arthritis is called COX-2 inhibitors, named for their ability to inhibit cyclooxygenase formation without causing gastrointestinal problems associated with COX-1 NSAIDs. COX-2 inhibitors are only available through a prescription and are usually prescribed after traditional arthritis NSAIDs have proved ineffective. These NSAIDs affect the circulatory system and increase the risk of heart attack and stroke with high doses or in sensitivepatients. For this reason, the dose is usually measured and monitored under the supervision of a doctor.

In most arthritis, NSAIDs are safe and effective drugs to alleviate inflammation and reduce mild to medium pain. The side effects are generally low for short -term, moderate use and provide sufficient relief for arthritic outburst and temporary discomfort. Over-the-counter NSAIDs may not be effective in patients suffering from severe or chronic arthritis. In this case, the advice of the doctor is necessary.
