What factors affect Clomid dosing?

Clomid®, also sold as a generic drug Clomifen, is a member of a class of medicines known as selective estrogen receptor modulators. As a result of their inhibition of negative feedback in the hypothalamus, selective estrogen receptor modulators such as Clomid® increase gonadotropins, help to induce ovulation, suppress lactation, cure oligospermia and potentially improve male hypogonadism. The standard initial Clomid® dose changes according to the condition to be treated.

When used to induce ovulation, an oral dose of 50 mg is recommended once a day. The treatment should begin as close as possible to the fifth day of the patient's menstrual cycle. However, patients who have not experienced recent haemorrhage can start treatment at any time. If pregnancy does not occur in spite of ovulation, up to two additional treatment courses for five days at the same Clomid® dose may be carried out.

Although most patients respond to the first therapy, it may be patients who do not have ovulation, the second course of therapyIE at a higher Clomid® dose. For the second course, the 100 mg regime can be administered once daily for five days as soon as 30 days after the first treatment is closed. While the third treatment may also be administered at the same dosing level, the manufacturer is not recommended for further treatment. However, some doctors have reported successful pregnancy and deadlines after more consecutive cycles, ten -day healing regimens or doses up to 200 mg daily.

Clomid® can also be used for lactation termination. A dose between 50 and 100 mg can be administered orally for five days. While in general there is sufficient only treatment, further treatment may be performed if necessary.

When the use of drugs as treatment of oligospermia is the treatment time significantly longer than for induction of ovulation or lacting. The treatment regime usually takes several months, with patients receiving clomid® dosing between 25 and 100 mg once daily.

It is not necessary to adjust the Clomid® dosage in patients suffering from reduced kidney function. It may be necessary to monitor patients, who receive the medicine for a longer period of time to find out how tolerated it is. However, the drug should not be administered to patients with a history of liver disease or suffer from reduced liver function.
