What is the difference between Lorazepam and Alprazolam?

It is used to treat anxiety disorders and seizures, Lorazepam and alprazolam are drugs belonging to the benzodiazepine class, which all serve similar functions. Important differences between the two drugs are dictated when each is used in medical practice. Both of these drugs have different half -lives, onset speeds and side effects that make them more suitable for certain conditions and patients.

The drug half -life is required to be half metabolized and excluded from the body in the form of waste after its ingestion. Lorazepam and alprazolam have similar average half -lives, approximately 10 to 11 hours, but the half -life differs for each medicine. Alprazolam half -life tends to remain approximately the same for most people, while Lorazepam's half -life can be up to 16 hours. After days in a row, Lorazepam tends to remain in the body for longer, making it more useful treatment of both for treatment, severe anxiety.

lorazepam and alprazolam have relatively fast start times, which is the time needed forthat the medicine after its adoption to apply its effects. However, the onset for alprazolam is a little faster, and therefore it is usually a drug of choice for the treatment of panic disorder outside the medical environment. This disorder is characterized by sudden, unpredictable panic attacks that usually require rapid treatment. Orally disintegrating alprazolam tablets are available to alleviate panic seizures that significantly extend the medicinal onset to ensure rapidly acting relief.

Most benzodiazepines have similar side effects and Lorazepam and alprazolam are no exception. They have small deviations from each other that can take into account them. Lorazepam seems to have less potential for psychological dependence, partly because of its longer starting time. Physically, both Lorazepam and alprazolam can lead to addiction if they are used for more than four weeks at once, but it seems alprazolamSimilar to reflective anxiety and other withdrawal symptoms if high doses are stopped for a long time.

Water solubility or how well each medicine can dissolve in water, it also varies between the two drugs. Alprazolam, like most benzodiazepines, is not soluble in the water and therefore cannot be administered intravenously (IV). Lorazepam can be dissolved in water and, as such, can be administered to patients in the hospital environment through IV. Due to its potential use IV, Lorazepam is a choice for the treatment of seizures and panic attacks in a hospital environment.
