What are the stromatolites?
Stromatolites are among the oldest fossils in the world, some of which are over 3.5 billion years. Stromatolites are structures consisting of huge colonies of cyanobacteria, formerly called blue green eyelashes, which directly contributed to the creation of the Earth's atmosphere and its currently habitable state. In addition to the existing fossilized form, a colony of living stromatoliths was discovered in Australia in 1956. Visitors to the world Shark Bay region can be surprised by the archaic organisms that live in the highly salt environment of Hamelin's pool.
Stromatolites are made of prokaryotic cyanobacteria that have cells lacking a distinct core. Prokaryotic bacteria are considered by some scientists to be the oldest and most primitive life on Earth, with a well -established fossil record for millions of years. Cyanobacteria, which dominate stromatoliths, process many building blocks of life, including oxygen, carbon, and nitrogen. Prokaryotic bacteria
today forms importantFor part of the world biomass, especially in the oceans. These bacteria thrive in an extreme environment due to their relative lack of complexity. They are also very susceptible to being amazed by more complex organisms, and therefore often occur in areas that other organisms cannot survive or pair with other, more resistant life forms. Because they play an important role in reducing carbon dioxide and oxygen radiation, many scientists have urged further research of these bacteria.
Stromatolites were called "Living Rocks" before understanding their precise make -up and resemble rocks, grow to three feet (one meter) high and are almost as wide. From a distance, the colony of stromatolites can look like a series of boulders scattered on the beach. However, stromatolites are actually laminar structures composed of many layers of material accumulated by cyanobacteria that form the colony of the stromaOlita. In a fossilized form, the stromatolites have distinctive material strips that are quite noticeable.
The colony of cyanobacteria and accompanying algae tends to collect particles that accumulate in layers and create a striped formation. Since the stromatolites last until it develops, the sample can represent thousands of years of growth with a reasonably large pattern. Photosynthetic powerhouse can be found in fossilized form around the world, suggesting that they played a huge role in the production of Earth through a hospitable environment for other life forms.
