What is a cave lion?
cave lion is an animal from one of the few now extinct species or subspecies of large cats. All cave lions are members of the panthera , which also includes modern lions, tigers, panthers and leopards. Three subspecies, the Bering Cave and the Early Central Pleistocene and the upper Pleistocene European Lions, are closely related subspecies of the modern lion, panthera Leo . The fourth type, the American cave lion, was originally considered another lion subspecies, but was subsequently identified as a different species. It was an ice age or ice age, a period of low global temperatures in which large ice leaves were formed at the Earth's poles and repeatedly proceeded and retreated with temperature changes. The cave lions received their name because their fossils are often discovered in the caves, the bunebys were considered caves that they were their usual dwelling places. Instead, scientists believe that they generally lived in pastures and coniferous forests where they hunted prey such as horses, deer and bizon. In some cases, they could also hunt bears and woolen mammoth.
The earliest type is the early medium Pleistocene European cave lion, or panthera leo fossilis. The oldest known fossil of this subspecies is about 700,000 years old, although in Africa they are very similar to fossils 1,000,000 years older. Panther Leo Fossilis was significantly larger than the lions today.
his successor was Panther Leo Spelaea , also called the upper Pleistocene European cave lion or the Eurasian cave lion. This kind of subspecies was created 370,000 years ago and it is assumed that it died about 12,000 to 14,000 years ago, although there is some evidence that indicates Pockets of them only a few thousand years. His habitat bridged most of Northern Eurasia, from the Iberian Peninsula and the British Isles in the West to Siberia and the coast of the Pacific Ocean in the east.
Panther Leo Spelaea was smaller than his predecessor, albeit even greater than the average modern lion. This subspecies were the subject of cave paintings, woodcarving and sculptures created by Palaeolithic people who portray them with a fur reminiscent of a smaller version of male lion shafts today. Some paintings are also displayed in groups, which is also a characteristic of modern lions, but it is otherwise rare among cat -shaped.
The closely related subspecies was Beringean Cave Lion, or Panthera Leo Vereshchagini . These animals were inhabited by what Alaska, North Canada and northeast Russia are now. They are somewhat larger than their European cousins, but they are very similar to genetically and probably Interbred with a large extension.
Panthera atrox , the American lion, is the only form of cave lion, which is in fact a separate species from modern lions. It was a huge animal, even bigger than Panthera Leo Fossilis and about 25% larger than a modern lion. Its hundredThe news covered most of Western America, from stretching from Alaska to the farthest south like Peru. Like the other lions of the caves, they prayed at the large and middle herbivores.
