What are circadian rhythms?

Circadian rhythms are cyclic and persistent patterns of behavior, physical changes and mental characteristics reported mostly by life on Earth, from the smallest bacteria to the largest sequoic tree. These rhythms roughly follow 24 hours, reflecting the amount of time to complete the rotation of the country. A study of circadian rhythms and internal clocks, which most creatures seem to be known as chronobiology. Scientists study them to learn more about life on Earth and how to treat different conditions such as sleep disorders.

several characteristics distinguish these rhythms. The first is that the changes will be maintained by dramatic changes in environmental conditions. For example, the animal in the dark will still have a period of increased and reduced activity that corresponds to a 24 -hour cycle. Repeated input from external stimuli can also reset the interior clocks, because anyone who has switched the time zones is probably aware of. In addition, the fluctuanezd is that this would have an impact on circadian rhythms.

The term was created by Franz Halberg, a researcher at the University of Minnesota. Halberg was fascinated by cyclic patterns of behavior that could be observed in matters such as plants that actually move slowly during the day to take advantage of light conditions. The word is derived from the Latin words Circa , which means "around" and dies for "day". Studies of these formulas combine a number of disciplines, including chemistry, general biology, genetics, physiology and even psychology. Halberg is widely considered to be the father of chronobiology, although circadian rhythms have been observed and described since the 17th century.

People tend to be most interested in these patterns in terms of how they affect sleep. When people experience sleep disorders, such as insomnia, these problems can be associated with disruption of their internal clocks that could be potentially repaired. It also explains whyPeople at certain times of the day experience a period of greater vigilance and when people feel sleepy or hunger.

A clear genetic connection with circadian rhythms was determined by scientists who indicate that these very basic patterns were probably on Earth almost as long as they have living organisms. For example, primitive bacteria show circadian patterns. Animals with brain also have an internal biological clock.
