What are papillary muscles?
papillary muscles are vital structures in the heart that are located in the left and right chamber, two lower heart chambers. They perform important and necessary work, allowing blood from the atrials to the chambers. Papillary muscle function cannot be seriously disrupted or blood flow through the heart.
One of the main reasons why the papillary muscles are so necessary is that they are connected to the structures of the string called chordae tenneae. These are, in turn, connected to mitral and tricuspid valves, which are located between the left and right ventricles, respectively the left and right halls. When the papillary muscles are released, the "heart strings" will lose tension and opening the valves. This allows blood from two upper chambers (atrium) hearts into two lower chambers (chambers). The interruption of this flow in any way could mean that the chambers have insufficient blood to pump the body into the body or lungs to ooxygenation of blood.
an equally important function of papillary muscles is the protection of the wayU for mitral and tricuspid valves. During the muscle contraction, the leaflet prevents healthy valves inserting into the hall and pulling the chordae helps to form tight seals. This helps to maintain normally formed valves as they should, and prevents conditions such as regurgitation or blood leak back to the halls from the chambers.
The heart acts as a complicated system that depends on all its parts. One part failure can often signal the difficulties or failure of the rest of the parts. The papillary muscles have to work very much because they are designed or may result in problems. Unfortunately, there are cases where they are somehow disturbed.
One point of concern is the IS damage of papillary muscles during myocardial infarction (heart attack). There are cases where muscles, especially those in the left chamber, may break a heart attack. Immediate repair that may include direct muscle repair and repair or replace mitralnThe valve. Even in surgery, this condition is extremely serious and will not boast a good level of survival.
Another rare condition occurs intense. Some children are born that some of their papillary muscles are missing, which means that either mitral or tricuspid valve may not function adequately. There are a number of strategies for solving this surgical, including heart treatment, as if it were a hypoplastic or left chamber. The non -functional chamber may be bypassed in a number of palliative operations. Alternatively, if some muscles are present, surgeons could consider various surgical approaches that could solve this problem.
