What Is the Esophageal Hiatus?
The esophageal hiatus is located on the diaphragm, approximately flat to the 10th thoracic spine. It is the descending channel of the esophagus and vagus nerve. Between the chest and abdominal cavity, there is a thin layer of muscle, called the diaphragm, through which the esophagus enters the abdominal cavity.
