Palate
- The mandibles (singular mandible) are a pair of hard, tapered structures located behind the upper lip. The front end has incisor lobe to cut and tear food, and the rear has molar lobe to grind food.
- The upper jaw has a powerful adductor and a smaller abductor. The contraction of the two muscles allows the upper jaw to move left and right. The palate is generally not completely symmetrical.
