What is the silicate of magnesium?

magnesium silicate is a chemical compound consisting of magnesium, silicon and oxygen. There are several forms, both natural and produced. One of the most common forms of magnesium silicate is mineral ointment that can be found in deposits around the world and is used in many industrial and everyday applications. Synthetic forms are also widely used, especially as filters and ingredients in the food industry. The type of magnesium silicate, which consists of talc, is therefore said to be hydrated - ie it contains water in its chemical composition. Mastus appears to be a white crystal or powder and is the softest mineral. This substance is used to produce baby powder and chalk powder used by athletes such as gymnasts, to dry hands for better grip. Malk can also be found in some types of chalk, ceramics, cosmetics, colors and food products. For example, for table salt, Mastk is sometimes added to prevent coating. Most regulatory bodies consider Mastk as safeOU in small concentrations, although inhalation or consumption of larger concentrations can cause lung inflammation and other health problems.

Synthetic silicate of magnesium, as ointment, exists as a white powder, but has a different chemical origin. It is made from the reaction of sodium silicate and magnesium compound, such as magnesium sulfate. In this way, the particles of the compound are porous, which means that they consist of spaces that can pass liquid or gas. As a result, they are useful as a filter medium.

In the food industry, a synthetic magnesium silicate can be added to another filter medium to absorb dirt from the oil used. It is also a coating into powder food to prevent them from being created, as with the use of talc in table salt. Other applications of synthetic magnesium silicate are similar to talc applications and include ceramics and drugs.

There are other forms of magnesium silicate, but are less common. For example, mineral enstatit is a naturally occurring form of magnesium silicate. For chemical research, hexafluorosilicate of hexafluorosilicate is produced, a compound that contains fluorine in addition to magnesium, silicon and oxygen. Special forms of magnesium silicate are most often found in research laboratories and niches.
