What Is Petroleum Engineering?

Petroleum engineering is a general term for a series of engineering and process technologies that are implemented to establish suitable flow channels and optimize lifting methods based on the characteristics of oil and gas and reservoirs, and to economically and efficiently dig deep underground oil and gas from oil and gas reservoirs to the surface. Including reservoirs, drilling, oil production and petroleum surface engineering.

The direct goal of petroleum engineering is to maximize the exploitation of underground oil and gas resources at the minimum cost to serve the national economy. An important indicator for measuring the level of oil and gas extraction technology is oil and gas recovery, which refers to the percentage of the total oil and gas that is produced from oil and gas reserves and its geological reserves. At present, the oil and gas fields that have been developed in the world have high recovery rates of more than 70% and low recovery rates of less than 30%. The average oil recovery of major oilfields in eastern China is about 30%, which means that about two-thirds of crude oil remains underground and has not been recovered.
Especially in the case of insufficient newly proven reserves in recent years, improving oil and gas recovery has become a very important technical and economic issue, and it is also a very important task in petroleum engineering.

5. In 1840, at the depth of 1200m, the third main gas layer of the Triassic Jialingjiang system limestone was drilled. It had a strong blowout, soaring into the sky, and was called "King of Fire".
In the past century, because imperialism strangled our country s oil industry and dumped oil on China, we have to live on foreign oil.
After the founding of New China, China's petroleum industry has developed rapidly:
1. In the first 10 years after liberation, carry out a national oil census;
2. In September 1959, the Songji 3 well in Songliao Basin was injected with oil and Daqing oil field was discovered; Shengli oil field was discovered in 1963; Dagang oil field was discovered in 1964;
3. In 1975, the Renqiu Oilfield was discovered. In 1978, China's crude oil output exceeded 100 million tons and entered the ranks of the world's largest oil producing countries;
4. "Stabilize the east, develop the west, and simultaneously develop oil and gas"-China's petroleum strategy; in 1989, a number of large and medium-sized coal-bearing oil and gas fields such as Shanshan and Hills were discovered.
Since liberation, China has found 493 oil fields and 145 gas fields, and its oil and gas production has continued to grow steadily.
5. In 1998, the World Bank ranked China as the world's third largest energy producer. [2]
