What Is a Low Pressure Headache?
Except for the cerebrospinal fluid fistula that occurs after injury, the common cause is headache after lumbar puncture. During the lumbar puncture examination, too much fluid was released, or the postoperative cerebrospinal fluid continued to leak from the puncture site to the outside of the meningeal cavity, which caused the pressure in the spinal canal to fall, and the painful sensitive tissues in the posterior cranial fossa were pulled down, causing headaches. Dull or pulsatile pain in the occipital or forehead usually occurs within a few hours after surgery. Headaches aggravate during sit-ups or standing, and improve after lying flat. It usually recovers naturally within 1-3 days, and a few cases last longer. A fine-calibre puncture needle should be used for lumbar puncture. Decubitus supine for 6 hours will help prevent headaches. Intravenous injection of 500mg sodium benzoate caffeine has a significant effect when headaches have occurred. It can also be intravenously infused with 5% glucose solution or glucose saline 1000-2000ml / day, or encourage patients to drink more water, such as daily oral salt water 2000-3000ml. Taking a bed rest in a low position is good for headache relief.
