Reaction formation, also known as reaction structure, inversion, is a defense mechanism proposed by Sigmund Freud in the psychoanalytic school of psychology.
When using reverse generation, we act in the opposite way to unconscious desires, to avoid terrible thoughts or desires. For example, a woman always tells others how much she loves her mother, in fact she strongly hates her mother in a hidden unconscious. According to Freud, activists involved in the fight against pornography may unconsciously have a strong interest in pornography. The reason is that such an idea is really unacceptable, so that the self must prove that this idea is incorrect. How could a woman who confessed that she loved her mother hated her deep inside?
