What is Urachus?

Urachus is a channel that connects the bladder of the unborn baby with a part of the umbilical cord. During the development of the embryo, the patient's lumen or the inner part of the urachal canal is usually filled. Filled lumen usually becomes a solid cord that does not have a known medical function. Disorders may occur in the urachal channel, including patent urach and urachal cancer. In some cases, infants with this condition escape urine into the hollow lumen of the urachal canal during urination. Children with an open urachal channel may have an increased risk of urachal cancer later in life unless the urachal channel is repaired. In some cases, the Urachus patent may increase human susceptibility to urinary tract infections. The child is usually placed under general anesthesia of this type of surgery. This allows most children to have a painless experience when sleeping during the procedure. A surgeon can make a normal size or a few smaller laparoscopic cuts in the child's lower abdomen before the localThe urachal channel begs and removes it surgically. The surgeon usually finds an opening from the bladder of the child to the urachal canal and closes it to prevent further leakage of urine.

Before repairing Urachus, the doctor may have several tests such as ultrasound examinations and X -rays, as part of the preparation for surgery. Doctors usually recommend that patients stop taking medicines that reduce blood storage, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, a few days before the operation. Many children are released from the hospital several days after the operation. The doctor may prescribe antibiotics to fight possible postopeminfection. Most children have a successful result after the URACHUS patent repair operation.
