What is a stereotactic frame?

The stereotactic frame is a three -dimensional surgical consulting system used for more specific parts of the body and stabilizing the body during the procedure. Stereotactic frames are also used primarily for biopsy and radiation treatment, and are also used to remove tissue or tumors and to stimulate, implant or injection into a part of the body that can be difficult to achieve or locate. The stereotactic frame is particularly useful on the brain, where tissue is relatively homogeneous and natural landmarks almost do not exist. After placing on the patient, lock the pins frame to the body. The frame is then attached to the operating table to keep the patient stable, and the area of interest and frame is displayed using computer tomography, magnetic resonance imaging or angiography. Pictures show a problem area in relation to and other anatomical markers. It usually takes about three to twelve hours to determine the exact coordinates of the frames that correspond to the problem areas and from which the surgeon drills or cuts for over viano delivery of radiation, biopsy or some other forms of therapy.

Consistent stabilization during delicate surgery or procedure requiring repeated treatment of treatment at different times is also a function of the stereotactic frame. For procedures that require multiple applications such as radiation, surgical frames can ensure that radiation is applied exactly to the same place every time and the surrounding tissue is minimized. The unnatural use of treatment is achieved by locking the stereotactic frame on the patient at the same place each time and the frame locks the operatinug table for stabilizing the patient during the procedure and the use of the same predetermined coordinates to guide the procedure.

Some risks of using a stereotactic framework for surgery or radiation are incomplete removal of the tumor, worsening of the neurological problem, infection or undesirable responses to anesthesia. Before using stereotactsThe patient for surgery or brain radiation will be treated with steroids to prevent brain swelling and antiepileptics to prevent seizures. Surgery or radiation treatment, including the stereotactic frame, is relatively minimal, from a few hours in the recovery room to one night in the hospital.
