What Is Carotid Angioplasty?
Extracranial carotid artery stenosis is mostly caused by atherosclerosis. Lumen stenosis / occlusion, plaque rupture and embolism can cause ischemic stroke. The clinical manifestations from mild to severe are: transient ischemic attack, dizziness, blackness, memory loss, hemiplegia, aphasia, etc. Percutaneous angioplasty, as a minimally invasive intervention for the treatment of carotid stenosis, has achieved similar clinical results as traditional carotid endarterectomy, with the advantages of less trauma and faster recovery.
