What is echinacea?

echinacea is a herb that is very popular for use in the treatment of colds and flu. Also known as American Conflower, it has been used for centuries by native Americans before the arrival of European explorers. In the 18th century its use took off in the United States and the herb became popular in Europe. Echinacea is used in many Western countries because it is assumed that it promotes the health of the immune system and minimizes some symptoms of the disease. The plant is slightly pointed and has large pink to purple flowers depending on the variety. The center of the flower consists of a cone or head of seeds, which is also dirty and dark brown to red. Three types are used for healing purposes: echinacea angustifolia , echinacea pallid, and echinacea purpurea .
