How is the atoll form?

Atoll is one of the beautiful but mysterious ground formations that occur in remote places of warm tropical waters such as the Pacific Ocean. It has been created for 30 million years, atoll is home to up to 300 types of corals and a number of other marine life. Looking from above, it resembles a flat ring of sandy ground with a lagoon in the middle. The atoll should not be confused with the island because its geographical formation is significantly different. Based on his gross observations of the South Pacific Darwin atolls, he concluded that these unique ground creations were the result of two factors that occurred at the same time - the growth of coral reefs and the gradual sinking of the ocean island.

The formation of the atoll takes up to 30 million years. It begins with a new tropical ocean island that exists as a result of collision of tectonic plates or Movement plates over ocean hot spots of volcanic activity. Most of the atolls, especially those found in the Pacific Ocean, are products of previous volcanic islands. ThyThe newly created volcanic islands will not have any signs of any form of life, whether on earth or in water. This is because tropical waters are relatively warm and lack enough nutrients to maintain marine life.

One hundred thousand years later, it surrounds the coast of the volcanic island of the coral reef. Coral reefs are built by hermatypic corals , organisms that thrive in warm surface waters. These organisms multiply and reproduce corals across the coast of the island. The new corals grow on top of the elders or the dead, and the process continues when the volcanic island begins to sink. This is the second step in the atoll formation.

over the next 25 million years, the rolling coral reefs turn into barrier cliffs. The barrier cliffs were created when the island sinks almost to the sea level, while the corals still grow up. These geographical movements in contradictory shiftsRechs lead to the development of lagoons between the sinking island and the growing coral reef.

Atoll was born five million years after this, when the island disappeared completely below the sea and the coral reef continues to grow towards and over the surface of the water. Laguna, which was made in the earlier phase, is now dominated by the center of the atoll. Finally, because of the wind and waves erosion, the corals will fall into pieces and become sand, creating a soil called cay .

Atolls are known for their beautiful coral reefs and colorful marine life. Many of them are attractive tourist places, especially for divers and snorchler enthusiasts. Among the famous atolls around the world are those in the Tuamot archipelago, the coral Sea Islands and Caroline Islands in the Pacific Ocean, as well as the Chagos Maldiva archipelago in the Indian Ocean.
