What is a living fossil?

Live fossil is an organism that represents one of the few, not the only, survivors of a taxonomic group, without close living relatives. One of the well -known examples of living fossil is Ginkgo Biloba, a tree that is literally in the classroom itself. Like many other living fossils, Ginkgo is also remarkably similar to anatomically to the older relatives in a fossil record. In fact, the occasional comparison of the live ginkgo and the fossilized tree can bring several obvious differences. Many of these organisms are mistakenly called "primitive" occasional observers because they may have archaic anatomical features or unpredictable biology, but these organisms are far from easy. "Prival" may be a better term, because the living fossil is a member of a small group of creatures that lasted several main extinct events of the adramatically changing global environment. Coelacant fish are also live fossils, along with horseshoe crabs, Radeses and Opssums. Some of these animals haveVery small limited ranges and are extremely vulnerable to environmental pressure, while others are widely distributed and apparently found safe environmental niches to inhabit.

Live fossil is not exactly the same as the so -called "Lazarus taxon". Taxon Lazaurs is a taxonomic group that disappears from a fossil record and then reappears, basically rises from the dead. The scientific community has discovered several examples of Lazurus Taxons in the form of animals that were considered extinct and later discovered alive; Chinese Redwood Dawn is one such. There are a number of explanations for the lazarus taxon in the fossil record, because the conditions for fossilization must be perfect and it is possible that the gaps do not always mean that the species has disappeared.

Live fossil studies can reveal interesting information about the development of life on Earth. These creatures must hardly be, so although some of them look and act biObrno, scientists believe they have to do something right to survive for so long. Live fossil is also simply interesting and shows a clear connection between fossil records and animals that are currently alive; It's quite amazing to see Ferly at the town hall and knew these plants looked exactly the same millions of years ago.
