What is Aronia?

Aronia is a genus of upright shrubs from North America. These plants are grown as ornaments in their native range and are also cultivated for their edible fruit. These plants, known as chokeberry, have been used for centuries and, thanks to the high antioxidant content of fruit, are becoming increasingly popular with the general public. Nursery in North America sometimes stores nitrates and can also order them according to a special request from customers. aronia species are all small deciduous shrubs with simple elongated leaves. They produce clusters of white to pink flowers that ripen into small berries in the autumn months. Depending on the species, the berries can be bright red, rich purple or matt black. The berries are extremely astringent and cannot be consumed raw.

Also, they are not selecting about soil quality. aronia can handle acidic or basic soil, salt conditions and very poor soil. The only main growing requirement is that plants need a partial shadow. A full sun can be too intense and a full shade can undergo plants with mold and rot.

Plants can work very well as planting samplesIn the garden, or they can be in bulk and are used to create low hedges. The berries can be dirty and will be reseed, so even if the gardeners do not intend to use them, it is advisable to collect them in the autumn months. Pruning aronia can be done in the spring before the bushes start to discard if shaping is required.
