What are zinc features?

Zinc properties differ depending on the context. Physically, zinc has similar properties to other metals in the periodic table, such as iron. Brass is a culinary alloy made of zinc and copper. Chemically, zinc shares properties with other elements of Group 12 and is slightly reactive. Biologically, zinc features play an important role in metabolism because many enzymes use zinc.

zinc appears as a metal with silver or blue-white color. It can be shiny, but many degrees have a boring surface. At everyday temperatures is one of the properties of zinc fragility. This means that when zinc is stretched or compressed, it tends to break rather than deform. Although the atomic weight of zinc is heavier than iron, it is less dense and therefore feels lighter.

A common alloy made of zinc is brass. Brass is produced by mixing zinc and copper, usually with copper than zinc. It looks like a glossy metal with gold or yellow color. Uses Seu applications that require contact withlow friction between surfaces. Brass tends to kill bacteria, so in hospitals, brass handles are often used to improve hygiene. It is also used extensively to produce musical instruments.

Chemical properties of zinc are similar to other elements of Group 12 such as cadmium and mercury. Like these other elements, zinc has relatively low melting points and boiling. Zinc is somewhat reactive, which means that it will chemically react with air and water. When clean zinc is exposed to the atmosphere, it will respond with carbon dioxide to form a protective layer of zinc carbonate. Chemical properties in zinc are used in fireworks to create the effect of smoke.

Biological properties of zinc, on the other hand, are important for public health. In fact, Zink is in a number of organisms. The element is used in many enzymes that are proteins that affect the degree of certain chemical reactions. Enzymes JSOU important for maintaining chemical balance in the body. In the human body, zinc in the brain plays decisive and is essential for the learning process.

Zinc deficiency is a common nutritional problem in developing countries. In childhood and adolescence, the lack of zinc can grow and sexual maturity. In all age categories, the wrong zinc levels can prevent the ability of the immune system to fight infection and disease. It is assumed that at least a quarter of the world's population is endangered by a lack of zinc.
