What is an active metal?

Active metal is a metal that tends to respond heavily and quickly to other elements due to the arrangement of electrons in its structure. These elements can be found in the far left periodic tables, between group I. hydrogen, at the top of this column in the periodic table, share its properties, but are not classified among active metals. It can easily replace this electron to create a cation and a chemical reaction. This reaction can sometimes be explosive. These metals are so unstable that in the natural environment it does not appear freely in pure form. Pure active metal would interact with water and air and disintegrate into another form of element. The instability of these metals requires scientists who want to work with their pure formous for their storage contained and covered with inert material. The oils are commonly used to insulate active metals, so they will not respond with the surrounding air or water vapor in the air. Some science students may have seen demonstrations where instructors take pieces of active metal and throw them into KONtejner water to show the way these metals behave in nature.

Active metal can react so strongly with water that it causes explosion. The reaction force can force the water shower from the container when the element interacts with the liquid. Demonstration of these types of reactions, in addition to attracting the attention of students who like explosions, also serve as a warning to students who can handle active metals. Metals are so reactive that they can even trigger chemical reactions from the sweat on the hands and it is important to treat them with caution to prevent injuries.

The reactivity of active metals can be useful for various activities. They are used in controlled chemical reactions and in the production of various products. For example, lithium is used in folded form in batteries known to be extremely long -term. Chemists work with active metals in different environments, and many of them can be ordered a pricedby scientific supply companies. Costs may vary because some metals are more rare and can be difficult to obtain and all require special measures for handling during production and packaging.
