Guangzhou Arts & Culture
Guangzhou offers many opportunities for visitors to experience
its customs, culture, and arts. Some of the activities could
include a night at the opera, a visit to the local cinema,
or a trip to one of Guangzhou's Museums.
The Xinghai Concert Hall is the best concert venue in Guangzhou.
It is named after Xian Xinghai, a renowned Chinese composer,
who was just born in Guangzhou. The Hall consists of three
parts, a symphony performing Hall with 1500 seats, a Chamber
Music Hall and a Music Material Room.
The hyperbolic paraboloids shell forms the unique shape of
the concert hall. The pyramid-shaped glass wall on the facade
shows the brilliantly sacred and enthusiastic artistic flavor
of symphonies. The spacious platform and the slope surrounding
a pool make the construction harmonious with the Linjiang Arts
Center Square.
The symphony performing Hall was designed on the basis of natural
sound, using reinforced concrete shell of hyperbolic paraboloids
to cover the "Mountain Valley-Terraced Fields" seats
so that the surfaces of these two parts directly form a sound
field. The architectural structural space is an acoustics
one. The hard interior surface of the reinforced concrete
shell and the sidewall of the parquet seat areas serve as the
interface of the reflection and diffusion of the music sound.
In addition, a spherical diffuser hung above the performing
stage improves the mutually heard condition on the performing
stage and reinforces the early reflected sound for the front
seat areas.
