Xi'an Night LifeThough not as lively as Beijing or Shanghai, Xi'an's large student population and general prosperity make it very exciting at night. By nightfall, red lanterns are lit across the city and the perimeter of neon lights along the city walls adds to the evening ambience.
Karaoke is popular in China and people in Xi'an also spend much of their time singing to Chinese and English songs, with friends in karaoke bars. Like a living room, nicely decorated with a sound system in place, all you have to do is pick up the microphone. Drinks and snacks are served. They are generally open from 7pm to 2am, sometimes later.
There are many movie theatres playing Chinese and foreign films. Most of the films have subtitles. The only difference is you can choose whether you want sweet or salty popcorn.
The Tang Dynasty Dinner Show is very popular among tourists. The Tang Dynasty Dinner Show is performed by the "Tang Dynasty Song & Dance Troupe", a branch of the "Shaanxi Provincial Song & Dance Troupe". This type of performance has been treasured as a national art that reflects the glory and richness of the Tang Dynasty era. The performance features Chang'an music and dance which originated from China's Tang Dynasty over a thousand years ago. It has been recreated in accordance with various historical records as well as ancient art and relics discovered in Xi'an, the capital of the empire during the Tang Dynasty.
There are plenty of local bars in Xi'an. However, night clubs in Xi'an are not abundant since the hip-hop culture is not prevalent in the city. Most people go out between 9 pm and 12 am, and go out for snacks after clubbing.
