What are the common causes of the abnormal levels of TSH?
The levels of the
hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism are not always due to the same causes. It is not so unusual for women to develop hypothyroidism. In most cases there is no specific dysfunction such as a knot or swelling of the gland. The potential cause of hypothyroidism is an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto's thyroiditis, which is rarer. Obviously, the removal of the thyroid gland also leads to hypothyroidism.
The most common cause of hyperthyroidism is Graves' disease. Alternately, a small node on the thyroid gland can be sent to overproduction, which can be designed by low, abnormal levels of TSH. Viruses can also result in hyperthyroidism and about 5% of women develop a short period after a child.
Other potential causes of high or low hormone levels are the use of lithium and amiodarone drugs. Thyroid cancer is relatively rare, alE is likely to lead to the abnormal level of TSH. Reading for TSH fall outside normal in some patients undergoing cancer radiation therapy.
It is important to realize that abnormal levels of TSH are sometimes caused by a poorly performed or defective test. If a person is completely free of symptoms, it is good to repeat the test. This may confirm or invalidate the original results and direct the doctor to the relevant interventions.
